THE TEST MATCH

Four Englishmen Out > ■ MODERATE SCORE Grimmett Bowls Well I By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. (Rec. Jung 14, 0.25 a.m.) London, June 13. At the luncheon adjournment England had four wickets down for 91. Oldfield was much fitter this morning. His injured neck is improving. The omission of Duleepsinghjl disappointed the crowd. , The Australians wore black armbands out of respect for the late Sir Frederick Toone, and so did Hobbs and Sutcliffe, who took strike. Wall and Fairfax are the opening bowlers. A light breeze blew across the ground. * Only two men are in the slips, Hornibrook and Richardson, with Fairfax fielding at point. Sutcliffe had made 9, when a rising ball from Wall struck his right hand. The Yorkshireinan carried on, but the injury was painful. Wall was ineffective. Grimmett bowled with a particularly low trajectory and a good length. „ . Hornibrook badly dropped ( Sutcliffe at first slip when the, batsman haa reached 22. Hobbs and Sutcliffe batted with complete confidence. Neither Wall nor Fairfax looked the least dangerous, but Hobbs often mis-timed Grimmett, . who deserved to get almost anyone. Bradman and Richardson fielded splendidly. . „ . England’s first fifty took sixty-nine minutes., . Fairfax sent up a beautiful rising ball. Sutcliffe, who was in two minds, nibbled it, the ball flew high, touched Oldfield’s hands, and was deflected to Hornibrook’s, the latter thus handsomely repairing his earlier mistake. The following are the scores: — ENGLAND. First Innings. Hobbs, not out ...........■■■■■■■■■• ■■ $1 Sutcliffe, c. Hornibrook, b. Fairfax .. Hammond, 1.b.w., b. Grimmett 8 Woolley, st. Oldfield, b.
