The Hon. Sir Thomas Sidey (Attor-tey-General) will leave Wellington for the South to-night. The Hon. J. B. Donald (PostmasterGeneral) will return to Wellington on Monday from Auckland.
Mr. Justice Blair returned to Wellington yesterday. Mr. H. A. Knight has been re-elected chairman of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s committee for the ensuing,'season.
Mr. Charles Bush, who has been on a business trip to England, was a passenger to Auckland by the Rangitane, and will arrive in Wellington from the north this morning. “ Major J. 0. Webber, reserve of officers, Queen Alexandra’s (WellingtonWest Coast) Mounted Rifles, has been awarded the Colonial Auxiliary Forces Officers’ Decoration. Mr. E. B. Gunson, of Auckland, has been elected to a Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians, states a Press Association cable message from London.
Mr. J. Carnachan, manager of the Railway bus service, who fell and broke a bone in one of his ankles about a month ago, is still in hospital, but expects tQ be about again toward the end of next week. Professor Inglis, of the University of Otago, has been elected unopposed to fill the vacancy on the Academic Board of the University of New Zealand, caused by the resignation of Professor Benham.
Captain A. C. D. Cooke, retired, ami Captain O. L. Ferens, Queen Alexandra’s (Wellington-West Coast) Mounted Rifles, have been awarded tbe Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal.
Right Worshipful Brother Aubrey Halloran has been elected Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Freemasons of New South Wales, In succession to the retiring Grand Master, the Gover-nor-General, Lord Stonehaven, a Press Association message states. Mr. P. R. M. Hanna, formerly manager of the National Bank of New Zealand at Dunedin, has joined tbe general manager’s staff in Wellington, and is supervising the North Island division of the bank. He was assistant manager of the bank at Auckland, and has wide experience of banking in New Zealand generally. Mr. Hanna is a son of Mr. T. H. Hanna, of Auckland. Mr. F. M. Jervis, who for the past ten years has held the position of inspector for the North Island for the National Bank of New Zealand, and who is retiring on superannuation after 44 years’ service. Was farewelled on Tuesday at the bank’s head office by a number of fellow officers. Mr. Jervis was presented with a handsome escritoire and a chair, and Mrs. Jervis,, who was present, was the recipient of a canteen of cutlery.
