TO MARRY MAN SHE SHOT
Mr. Raymond de Trafford and Miss Alice Silverthorne, of Chicago, who was formerly the Comtesse Frederick de Janze, are s to be married. Count Frederick de Janze obtained an absolute decree of divorce from Countess Alice in September, 1927. Three months before she was tried in December, 1927, for shooting Mr. Raymond de Trafford at the Gate du Nord on March 27, 1927. She was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and fined a small amount, but was released under the First Offenders Act. Mr. Raymond de Trafford was in the London express as it was on the point of leaving the station when, according to her own admission; Miss Silverthorne shot him and then turned her revolver upon herself. In court, Miss Silverthorne said she was born in Buffalo, U.S.A., that she married Count Frederick de Janze in/ 1921. She met Mr. Raymond de Trafford in Kenya Colony, East Africa, and a friendship sprang up. At the hearing Mr. de Trafford volunteered to give evidence, and said that he “accepted full responsibility” for what happened. Mr. Raymond de Trafford saw service with the Guards in France. He is 30 years of age and is the third son of Sir Humphrey Francis de Trafford, of Trafford Park, Manchester.
