COAL STRIKE RUMOURS
“Not a Substance of Truth” EMPHATIC DENIAL Reports are current in the north that a strike is looming in the coalmining industry, but officials at Wellington in touch both with employers and the workers give an emphatic denial to any suggestion that an upheaval is imminent. Neither the Labour Department nor the Mines Department has received any information that would give rise to such a story.
“The-whole thing is absurd and has not a substance of truth in it,” a man associated with the Miners’ Federation said last evening when the report was referred to him. Another man who has taken a prominent part in the cause of the miners was equally as emphatic. “The miners are not looking for trouble,” he declared. .
