AUSTRALIA BEATS ENGLAND SEMI-FINALS REACHED London, June 9. Australia defeated England by four matches to one in the Davis Cup contest. Hopman (Australia) beat Lee Crawford Australia) beat Gregory’(England), 6—2, 7—5, 6—B, 6—3. , Australia next meets Italy in the semi-final of the European zone. Hopman made a splendid recovery to win the last two sets and thus clinch the tie for Australia. In a good match Crawford outplayed Gregory. JAPAN BEATS SPAIN Barcelona, June 9. In the Davis Cup contest, Harada (Japan) beat Juanico (Spain), 6 —o, G—4s, 6—3. ~ Japan now meets Czecho-Slovakia in in the semi-final. , COCHET LOSES TO BOROTRA Brussels, June 9. In the Belgian championships final Borotra beat Cochet in five sets.
