For the final day of the races at Ellerslie on Saturday the weather was by no means pleasant, and with a persistent drizzle was a keen wind which called for warm/frocks and heavy coats (says the Auckland “Herald”). Of furs there was no lack, and some very handsome coats were to be seen, as well as stoles and tweed or cloth coats with deep fur collars and cuffs. Generally speaking, it was the day of the tailored suit or simple tailored coat, and these were worn extensively. There was a great deal of black to be seen, while the varying shades of brown still bad their faithful adherents. Serving the double purpose of warmth and dryness were the leather coats, of which there were many to be seen, chiefly in shades of red, blue and brown, and with these were frequently worn twats in a contrasting shade.
