TREATY WITH EGYPT
CONFERENCE REACHES THORNY PATCHES PROTECTION OF CANAL London, April 10. From the fact that there were two long sessions of the Anglo-Egyptian Conferences to-day it may be taken for granted that the thorniest patches have been reached. Many people believe that Mr. Henderson made a false step in announcing the terms of the Draft Treaty before the Wafdlsts showed their hands, but it is also believed that the Egyptians now face the real meaning of “extreme limit” and are resorting to quibbles, mainly relating to the Suez Canal, concerning which Australia and New Zealand observers at the Conference are showing anxiety. They insist that the canal as a vital link In the Empire chain of communications must be protected by Britain alone.
