FARMERS’ UNION
CARTERTON BRANCH MEETING. Carterton, April IL The annual meeting of the Carterton branch of the Farmers’ Union was held at Carterton this afternoon, Mr. H. R. Renall presiding*. It was decided to support a suggestion from the Pahiatua branch asking that It be made compulsory for the name of vendors at stock sales to be made known at the time sale. It was decided to arrange for a meeting toward? the end of May with a view of forming a boys and girls’ ealf club, on similar lines to those already in Taranaki. The delegates to the Dominion conference were Instructed to oppose the Gladstone remit to make the half-hour daylight saving effective all the year round. Concerning the earthing of fencing wires, the branch considered that the power board should undertake the work of earthing fences parallel or intersecting power lines on their own responsibility. Mr. H. R. Renall was re-elected chairman. and Mr. H. Kempton the chairman for the ensuing year. Messrs. E. L. Rayner and H. Kempton were appointed delegates to the provincial executive. Tbc delegates to the Inter-provincial conference at Wanganui were Messrs. H. Kempton, E. L. Rayner, H. R. Renall: and Messrs. H. L. Rayner, F. Wadham. W. Thomas, I. Anderson. P Jamieson, C. Reid, P. Hodder, E. R. Rose. H. Rayner, T. S. Arcus, H. F. Rayner. P. Reid, P. Ashton. J. Fisher, P. Bain, and A. Reid were elected to the general committee. The secretary mentioned that there was a proposal from the Railway Department to arrange a South Island trip of 16 days for farmers in June, the estimated cost to be £22/10/-.
