LYALL BAY GRIEVANCES
Sir, —i notice in your columns a protest about dogs being allowed to run wild on the beaches. As a resident 1 would like to say that packs of dogs roam round like wolves; in fact, some of them being sheep dogs, have a wolf strain in them, and if upset snap at children and frighten the lives out of them. I have seen packs almost take to a man when the dogs are worked up to great excitement. Lyall Bay is very badly neglected; it should have a caretaker to keep the dogs off and poison should be laid for these wild brutes. Ido not think any of them pay dog tax, because none of the dogs seem to wear collars. It. would be a great haul for the dog-catcher if he were to call at. Lyall Bay. This neighbourhood is terriby neglected; at times you cannot live for the stench from the seaweed. There is no shelter at the tram terminus, and men, women and children have to endure the horrors of the southerly and northerly blizzards and sandstorms. I have made numerous complaints to the council without effect. . . The bus that starts immediately in front of the tram should start ..from the petrol station on the eastern” side of the bay; it would then be of convenience to the residents. —I am. etc.. “RESIDENT.” Lyall Bay, April 8.
