REVIVAL IN PALMERSTON Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, March 31. A determined effort to bring Palmerston North into line with other towns so far as music is concerned was made to-night, when an enthusiastic meeting of instrumeutiilists gathered at the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Orchestral Society, which Ims been in recess for the past year. Mr. J. W. Rutherford presided. Mr. J. Carter announced that the services of Mr. George Ellwood. of Wellington, coulil be secured as conductor at terms very favourable to the society. The difficulty which is facing the society is the lack of wood wind aud brass instruments, but after a tally had been atken of the instrumentalists present Mr. Rutherford expressed himself as satisfied that a complement of players eould be obtained. After considerable discussion a subcommittee was set up to meet Mr. Ellwood and to engage him if possible. It was decided to commence practices as soon as possible. The first practice will probably bo held on April. 9. Officers elected wore: President, Mr. ■T. W. Rutherford ; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. J. Graham, C. L. Mowlem, A. Tonkin; leader. Mrs. Law; librarian, Mr. A. W’ylie; auditor. Mr. R. Davis; property manager, Mr. C. Grening: secretary and treasurer, Mr. S. W'illow; committee. Messrs. P. Lawcomb, Penny and J. Carter.
