Gold Strike in Victoria.—A Press Association message from Melbourne states that what is hailed as a rich gold strike has been made by four St. Arnoud prospectors on Wilson’s Hill, about halt a mile out of town, and a mile from the now defunct Lord Nelson mine, once Victoria’s leading gold mine.

The Mawson Expedition.— ln a copyright message, Sir Douglas Mawson says : “We are now making for Kerguelen Island to replenish the Discovery’s coal supply. January 24, 25 and 26 were spent exploring the north coast of Lnderby Land.”—Press Assn.

Diamonds Discovered in New South Wales—Diamonds have been discovered on Jeanette Gould Plateau, near Lithgow, confirming a report of the Mmes Department in 1909 that diamonds should occur in this field, which is better known as gold and silver-lead country, states a Press Association message from Sydney. Decrease In Migration.—A press Association message from London states that civil accounts show a general decrease of migration for 1929. The amount voted in the Estimates was £1,418,000, of which £249,000 was unexpended, and will be returned to the Treasury. This is explained chiefly as due to restrictions in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand.

Body Recovered. —The body of Karl Richardson, Government electric linesman, of Christchurch, who was drowned in the Waitaki River while wading out to the tower of a transmission line on January 24, was found on the beach near Glenavy on Saturday morning and was formally identified at the inquest Inter, which was adjourned (states a Press Association message from Waimate).
