JAPANESE RAILWAYS
GREAT LOSS OF INCOME Tokio, January 30. Following Government injunctions to utilise Japanese products instead of imported, 373 items used in the Railway Department are now officially listed for the compulsory use of home-made supplies. This has caused a reduction of over 80 per cent, in the foreign articles used on the railways. Japanese articles are substituted. Due to retrenchment and business depression, the decrease in the income of the Government railways is the biggest in history. Whereas normally the annual increase is 10 per cent., tlie loss in income in recent months approaches twenty millions.
