DRUNK IN CHARGE OF CAR FINED AND LICENSE CANCELLED A one-time actor was the star performer in a case in the Magistrate s Court on Saturday morning, where temperament and a high-powered motor-car were said to have led him. The accused, Frederick William Hislop, a motor salesman, aged 30, was sum by Senior-Sergeant Butler to have collided with a moving tramcar in H itns Street shortly before 7 p.m. on r r1 ??/’ Driving his car in an erratic course, Hislop continued on into Abel Smith Street, where he backed his vehicle against the footpath and abandoned it. He yyas arrested as he walked away from the car. He was badly under the influence of liquor at the time, as was a companion who was with him. Mr. W. E. Leicester, who represented accused, said that his client was a very good driver and was under the impression that he could drive a car under any circumstances. Iri his time accused had been all sorts of things. He vv as an actor in America, and he had been a stockbroker, auctioneer, and an accountant. At the timee of his arrest he was employed as a motor salesman, and he was taking the car back to the garage when the mishap occurred. Accused was the sort of person who was temperamentally unsuited to be in charge of a high-powered ear. Counsel asked that the penalty imposed be more in the direction of taking away the license of accused than in imposing a heavy fine. The Magistarte (Mr. E.
