JUBILEE PICNIC

GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE. The fiftieth annual picnic of the staff of the Government Printing Office was held at Maidstone ,Park, Upper Hutt, last week. The day remained fine until late in the afternoon, when a heavy shower fell, but this did not affect the success of the gathering greatly. To mark the significance of the occasion each member of the staff was presented with a sotivenir, specially prepared for the event. There were sports events for all, and a liberal distribution of sweets, drinks, and the like was greatly appreciated by the children. There were a number of ex-members of the staff present as guests of the committee, including Mr. M. Marks, and at the conclusion of the proceedings the prizes were presented by the Government Printer (Mr. W. A. G. Skinner). The Wellington Gas Company employees’ annual picnic was held at Trentham racecourse on Thursday in doubtful weather. There was an attendance of about 850 employees and friends, and proceedings were enlivened by items from the Gas Company’s band. The company’s general manager, Mr. M. J. Kennedy, and Mrs. Kennedy, and the engineer, Mr. J. Hungerford, and Mrs. Hungerford, were in attendance. and a large programme of sports was successfully carried out.
