WAR RELIEF
A MONTH’S WORK
A meeting of the executive of the War Relief Association of Wellington was held on Thursday. Mr. L. 0. H. Tripp presided. There were also present: Messrs. C. M. Luke, A. Macintosh, G. Mitchell, and the secretary (Mr. A. O. Leach). The chairman reported that the appliciation committee had met on four occasions since the last executive meeting. During that period of 39 working days 204 applications had been received, comprising 35 claims from men who had not previously approached the committee, and 169 applications from others who had done so. During the periods under review the emergency committee had met on 32 occasions, and dealt with 44 of the applications received, 160 claims being disposed of by the application committee, whilst there were 73 applications still under action. The total number of applications received during the period under review—including those submitted to the finance committee —thus amounted to 208. The number of persons who called at the office during the period under review previously mentioned as 183, of these 110 applied for direct and 73 for indirect assistance. There had been no alteration in the general activities of the committee. Assistance differing widely in description had been given to partially-disabled soldiers. to others who were discharged fit and subsequently developed a war disability. to the widowed mothers and widows of soldiers, who fell in action and in other directions.
