The Hon. Sir Heaton Rhodes, M.L.C., who has been on a visit to Australia, will leave Melbourne on Wednesday next on his return to the Dominion.

The Hon. J. J. Holmes, a member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia, and a former State Minister of Railways, is touring New Zealand.

fljhe Minister of Labour (Hon. W. A. Veitch) left Wellington on Saturday night for Greymouth. The Minister of Lands (Hon. G. W. Forbes) is expected to return to Wellington to-morrow from the south. The Chief Government Whip (Mr. A. J. Murdoch), who has been visiting Wellington in connection with the sittings of the Education Committee, will return to Whangarei to-night. Major-General R. Young, General Officer Commanding Military Forces, arrived in Wellington from Auckland on Saturday morning.

Mr. J. T. Grose, general manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., and chairman of the Associated Banks, returned to Wellington by the Rangitane after a visit to London to meet the London board of the bank.

Lieut.-Colonel H. E. Pilkingtou returned to Wellington from the north on Saturday by the Limited express. Mr. M. M. Heinemann, of Wellington, honorary treasurer to the board of management of the Synagogue, is at present in Rotorua undergoing treatment following upon an operation. For that reason be was not able to be present at the funeral of the late Rev. H. Van Staveren yesterday.

Mr. P. Selig, president of the Canterbury Hebrew congregation, who came to Wellington to attend the funeral of the late Rev. H. Van Staveren, will return to Christchurch to-night.

Admiral M. P. O’Callaghan, C. 8., 0.V.0., R.N. (retired), arrived at Wellington by the Rangitane from South ampton. Admiral O'Callaghan, who is 80 years of age, last visited New Zealand in 1872, in 11.M.5. Dido. His present plans, he stated were indefinite, but he expected to spend a considerable time with relatives in various parts of the Dominion. In his service days Admiral O’Callaghan was an aide-de-camp to the late King Edward. It is worthy of mention that it was Admiral O’Callaghan who taught the present King his navigation when he was attached to the Royal Navy.

Sir Robert Vansittart, the Permanent Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, has appointed Mr. Clifford Norton to be his private secretary, in place of Mr. N. M. Bland, who has been appointed Counsellor of His Majesty’s Embassy at Brussels, states a British official wireless message.
