DROUGHT BROKEN

REJOICING IN QUEENSLAND Sydney, January 25. Floods and heavy general rain east from the Darling River are predicted by the State Meteorologist. The western districts have benefited incalculably by the last day’s rains. Further downpours are likely. As a result the Barwon River is in flood. There is also a cyclone developing about the Central Coast. The rain has lifted the outback depression. Huge sums will be saved in fodder alone. The drought has definitely broken in Western Queensland. Twenty-three stations reported rain where seven years’ drought had been experienced. The railway bridge over Cloncurry River has been washed away, and the river is a raging torrent Graziers say that the rain is worth millions of pounds.
