DOMINION TOURNAMENT CONCLUDES GLADDING & JENKIN WIN PAIRS COMPETITION By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, January 25. The New Zealand Bowling Association’s bowling tournament was concluded to-day, when, but for the exception of a light heat shower about 3 p.m M weather conditions were all that could be desired. The day was occupied in deciding the remaining games in the pairs competition, the fourth round of post-section play, a semi-final and the final being played. All three games were keenly contested, and G. Gladding and H. Jenkin (Carlton), by beating H. Halliday and N. Burgess (Hokonui) by 20 points to 19 in the final, emerged winners of the championship after -one of the most exciting finishes ever seen on a Dunedin green, and in a contest in which the issue was in doubt until the final bowl was played. In the semi-final, between Jenkin and Cooper (Southland) an exciting finish also took place. The final head resulted jn a tie, 16 all, and in the play-off Jenkin drove kitty into the ditch. Cooper drew the shot, but Jenkin, with a superb draw which hovered on the edge of the ditch just above the jack, took a single and won the game. . The Final. The opening head of the final was won by Hokonui, who notched a single, added two more singles on the second and third heads, and a brace on the fourth, being 5 up. ■ The next head yielded 4 to Burgess, who thus led 9 —o. Jenkin opened his score sheet with a 5 on the sixth head, but the seventh gave a single to Hokonui. Burgess burnt the eighth, and a replay gave 4to Carlton. On the ninth Burgess turned 6 down with the last bowl on one up, and led 11—9. A single to Carlton on the tenth was followed by a brace on the eleventh, and Jenkin took the lead 12—11, which he increased on the twelfth to 13— IL The. next head was won by Hokonui with a single and they took four on the next to lead by 16—13. A single to Hokonui on the fifteenth was followed by a similar score to Carlton, giving Hokonui a lead of 3 with 5 heads to play. The seventeenth gave another two to Burgess and the eighteenth a single to Jenkin, who was now 4 down with 3 heads to play. A two on the nineteenth and a similar number on the twentieth made the tallies level, 19-all, and Jenkin won the twenty-first by notching a single. Detailed Results. Fourth Round.— G. Batcheler and G. Cooper (Southland), 24, beat W. R. Todd and E. H. Tamblyn (St. Kilda), 20. Semi-final. —G. Gladding and H. Jenkin (Carlton), 17, boat Cooper, 16. Final. —G. Gladding and H. Jenkin, 20. beat H. Halliday and N. Burgess (Hokonui), 19. THE CANADIANS AT BLENHEIM. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Blenheim, January 26. The Canadian bowlers yesterday saw for the first time a New Zealand sheep station at close quarters, visiting Mr. G. F. Watt’s well-known Lansdown property, where they were entertained. They enjoyed the outing immensely. Yesterday afternoon the visitors played a test match against Marlborough Centre on the Blenheim green. The four “official” rinks were defeated by 92 to 61, and the unofficial rings by 52 to 40. Four of the visiting ladies, skipped by Mrs. McPherson, played a rink of Marlborough Club ladies. The visitors were narrowly defeated. ~ ~ - ' To-day the Canadians enjoyed a Visit to Queen Charlotte Sound. They-will leave for Christchurch to-morrow. j/The weather has been delightful. In Friday’s friendly game the Marlborough players won rather easily.
