AMATEUR ATHLETICS

ELECTRIC LIGHT MEETING. Given fine weather, the sports meeting to be held on the Basin Reserve next Wednesday should prove to be one of the most attractive gatherings in Wellington for some time. H. E. Newton, the brilliant middle-distance runner, from Wanganui, has arrived, and on his showing at the Porirua sports last Wednesday should be in fine fettle for his attempt in the 1000 yards event. He will have with him in this race Ogg, Campbell. Leech, Pickering, and Wilson. .Most of the leading cyclists will appear nt this meeting, entries having been received from Flett, Morris, Carswell, and the leading B grade riders. The Indies’ events have drawn good entries, with Miss Thelma Kench figuring on the scratch mark.
