MENTAL HOSPITAL SOCIAL
On Monday night, December 23, the usual Christinas Tree social, was given to the patients of the Ponirua Mental Hospital in the main recreation hall ol the hospital. i t i . , A large Christmas Tree had been ciecied on the stage and decorated with gilts of various descriptions, Chinese lanterns and coloured lights, etc., making an exceptionally pretty effect. The. halt was also tastefully decorated lor the occasion. During the course of. the evening Father Christmas made his appearance in a decorated model motor-car and distributed many gifts in person. Alter the Christmas Tree function was over, dancing was enjoyed by members ot tire staff and visitors, and opportunity was also taken to present Messrs. H. A. Gjiie and James Brown with a handsome gold watch suitably inscribed, on the occasion of their retiring from the service after upwards of forty years’ connection with the hospital.
