FRENCH POLITICAL OFFENDERS

London, December 30.
“The Times” correspondent at Paris states that President Doumergue has annulled the convictions of Leon Daudet, Camille Renee and other political offenders. Daudet is going to Paris on January 2 from Belgium.
In an endeavour to 1 ascertain the aptitudes and future desires of their boys, parents are often presented with a problem, an instance of which has come under the notice of an Auckland newspaper. A proud Auckland father, a business man. with a useful farm property being developed, decided to ascertain whether his ten-year-old son had a leaning, for the country life and career. They paid a special visit to the place, and the father decided to take the lad for a stroll round the farm and question him. “Wouldn’t you like to be a farmer, and own all this land?” he asked, in his most innocent manner. The answer was in the negative. “Well now,” said father, “what would you like to be?” The boy turned and said, with all seriousness, “I’d like to be a cowboy or a trillionaire.” There were no further questions. Another citizen was equally nonplussed the other day when his young heir snid he wanted to be an explorer of Ihe Arctic and Antarctic. “I would like to be all muffled up and skating over icebergs.” the lad added, with supreme satisfaction.
