The South Canterbury Caledonian Society’s fifty-fifth annual sports gathering commenced to-day in changeable weather, there being a large attendance. The following championships were won:— Bagpipe music (Pibrochs), South Island Championship: A. MacMillan; dancing, Highland Fling, New Zealand Championships (girls, under 14): Pat Atkinson; Gillie Callum. South Island Championship (boys under 16): Geo. Reilly. Sean Trubhas, New Zealand Championship (girls under 16) : Nancy Spavin. Cycling. ’ One mile, South Island Championship: P. O’Shea (Christchurch). Three-mile New Zealand Championship: P. O’Shea.
