SHIPPING POLICY

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT’S PROPOSALS BUILDING OF VESSELS IN AUSTRALIA (United Press Association.— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Sydney, December 31. Drastic changes in the shipping policy of the Federal Government are forecasted. A proposal is to be submitted to Caucus that legislation be passed that all vessels engaged in the Australian trade should be built in Australia, the object being to give an impetus to the shipbuilding industry, which is passing through a period of acute depression. The unemployed would also be absorbed. Another suggestion is the establishment of a line of three vessels for the Tasmanian trade.

The Caucus will also be asked to establish a passenger aerial- service with Tasmania.
