[Vice-Regal.] Their Excellencies the Governor-Gen-eral Sir Charles Fergusson and Lady Alice Fergusson left with members of the staff by the Limited on New Year s Eve to pay a farewell' visit to Auckland. They are scheduled to return to Wellington on Sunday night.
Dr. Gordon Anderson, with his wife and two children, returned from a trip to England by the Manama on Tuesday morning.
Mr. E. S. Luttrell, the Christchurch architect, was a passenger by the Marama on Tuesday. An Australian visitor by the Marama was Mr. Justice J. Hammond of New South Wales. Mr. I. Van Staveren was a passenger by the Marama on Tuesday. Messrs. E. Creed and F. Bennett, of Woolworths, Ltd., were arrivals by the Marama on Tuesday. Mr. Stanley S. Crick, general manager for Fox Film for Australia and New Zealand, arrived from Sydney on Tuesday.
Sir Henry Holt (England) is a visitor to New Zealand. Mr. Eric Rice, travelling secretary of the Oversea Club, arrived from Sydney on Tuesday. He has already visited Western and South Australia, and after touring New Zealand will tour Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria.
Lord Byng of Vimy was reported on Monday night to be slightly better and able to be up for an hour or so, states a British Official Wireless message.
Lieutenant-Colonel N. Fitzherbert. C.M.G., C.8.E., who was in charge of the New Zealand Base Records during the war, is making a visit to New Zealand in the interests of his business (states a Special Service message from Auckland). He arrived by the Rangitata. Since the war he has lived in England. Most of his time will be spent in Wanganui. Among the visitors to Wellington is Captain Sir Henry Gisborne Holt, late of the 4th Suffolks, who was created a Knight in 1923, and who is now on a trip round the world. Sir Henry served throughout the Great War, and in 1921 was appointed Comptroller of the Household to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, which he held until the succeeding year.
The King has approved of the ap pointmeut of Mr. Richard Roy Maconaelrie, of the Indian Political Department, to be His Majesty's Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary at Kabul, states a British Official Wireless message. The new Minister to Afghanistan was counsellor of the British Legation at Kabul from 1922 to 1924.
Mr. F. D. Helmore (Christchurch), Mr. C. G. McKellar (Christchurch). Mr. D. 11. S. Riddiford (Wairarapa), and Mr. C. S. Teschemaker (South Canterbury) are passengers who have returned from a trip to England by’the Rangitata, which arrived at Auckland oar Sunday.
