BEDROCK REACHED
AUCKLAND BANKKRUPTCY RETURNS
Dominion Spf.ciai Service. . Auckland, January 1.
Little variaton is shown in the number of bankruptcies iu the Auckland province last year. This is taken as an indication that bedrock has been reached and that any increase in the number of commercial failures in future would be due more to the growth of the city than to deflation following upon the dull business years of the past. The fact that there was a decrease of even three petitions last year as compared with the number filed in IJJo is regarded as most hopeful, and a sign of better conditons in future. .In 192• there were 220 bankruptcies, in IJ2B they numbered 133, and in 1929 the total was I£> in 1928 the greatest number of failures was among farmers. East year they again headed the list, 15 filing petitions, against 16 last year. Of the others, there were 12 builders. 11 labourers, 9 agents, and 6 taxi-drivers. Practically every business and calling was represented, among the miscellaneous cases, . from a medical practitioner and a solicitor to a Maori labourer.
