INTEREST IN NEW ZEALAND
MANY INQUIRIES FROM CONTINENT WORK OF PUBLICITY DEPARTMENT London, December 30. The New Zealand Publicity Branch reports an unprecedented interest in New Zealand'affairs', scenery, industries, and products throughout Europe, particularly in Germany, Holland, and Belgium, from which there are many inquiries from newspapers for photographs. A German periodical published a page of scenery and Maoris, in whom the Germans are specially interested, as also in flax. The Department has over five hundred photographs in circulation on the Continent, in addition to supplying Belgian, German, and Dutch syndicates with educational films and lantern slides. This is resulting in a rapid increase in the demands for honey and apples from New Zealand.
There is no trouble in placing films in England, although silent. Mr. H. T. B. Drew, the Publicity Ofiicer, stated that they were being shown on an average in fifteen theatres daily throughout the year, mostly in the provinces, despite the fact that they are neither talkies nor sound films. Many managers are saying the public prefer silents.
