NEW TERRITORIES

DISCOVERED BY WILKINS (Rec. December 31, 10.5 p.m.) Monte Video, December 30. A Government radio message announced the receipt of a message from the steamer Melville, saying that Sir Hubert Wilkins has discovered territories, previously unknown, in his last flight over the southern Polar ice cap. The Melville carried the explorer to the Deception Island base. SEARCH FOR WHALING BASES London, December 30. Information obtained at the Norwegian Legation discloses that the Antarctic exploring ship Norvegia had previously explored the Antarctic ice rim from the south of Cape Town to the 140th degree west, discovering only one new island in the region of Graham Land, with no suitable harbours and nothing useful for Norwegian whaling enterprises. Owing to the unsuitability of Bouvet Island, in which there Is no harbour, it was necessary to seek new land suitable for whaling bases. LAND DISCOVERED BY LARSEN Oslo, December 30. A repetition of the original message from Captain Larsen, of the Norvegia, discloses a mistake in wireless transmission. The new land discovered is a strip of a hundred kilometres between Enderby and Kemp Lands, not Coats Land. Part appeared to be mountainous.
