ISLAND BAY CARNIVAL
DISPLAY OF LIFE-SAVING
The sunshine of yesterday ’found many people on the beach at Island Bay. and the majority of them paid a visit to the carnival which the local life-saving and swimniing club is holding. All the usual side-shows, which (>u(» might expect to find at a carnival, are therq to entertain and to amuse. If one’s fancy did not turn to darts, there was lioop-la, or another of the dozen other attractions at which one might try one’s skill, while tiie merry-go-round proved its popularity with the adults as well as the’ children. At night the scene of the fair was gay. with lights and good crowds spent a jovial evening there, at the same time helping the club to purchase a much-needed surf-boat. The’ opportunity presented by the fine weather in the afternoon, and the numbers on the beach was availed of by a team of the club’s life-savers, who gave an exhibition of rescue work and lifesaving drill which greatly pleased the onlookers. Friday, the committee have decided, shall be a children’s day, and there will be a lucky baby. competition. and a treasure hunt in the sand as well as toys for /lie other children who attend. The gain will be held every evening for the remainder of the week, concluding on Saturday.
