EIGHT MEETINGS TO MORROW

A REVIEW OF THE FORM

(By

“The Watcher.”)

Racing will be in progress to-morrow in eight different centres in New Zealand—Auckland, Stratford, Hastings, Marton, Tauherenikau, Greymouth, Waikouaiti and Wyndham, while trotting will be held at Addington. At Ellerslie the third day’s racing of the Auckland Racing Club’s summer meeting will take place, the principal events being the Great Northern Derby and the A.R.C. Handicap. With the exception of Greymouth, Waikouaiti and Wyndham, all these meetings will be concluded on Thursday, when the Southland Racing Club’s fixture opens. At the time of writing there seems a better prospect of fine weather for the racing than there was for the Christmas meetings and tracks should be in perfect order.

The Marton Meeting. The Alarton ’meeting this season has drawn a much better class of horse and also a much larger number than usual and it promises to be a very successful gathering. The course is in splendid order and the first race is timed to start at 12 noon. .Special trains with excursion fares .will run from Palmerston North. Wanganui and Taihape, while Wellington patrons can arrive in time for the first race by the Daylight Limited, leaving Thorndon at 7.52 a.m. The club has reestablished the 10/- totalisator, both inside and out. The programme is as follows: — TRIAL PLATE, of 120 sovs. Six furlongs and 27 yards.

There is a big field iu the maiden race, but the majority have no form. Eqnitant. Good Acre, He Wauga, Leisure. Paiko and Kilorell appear the sum of possibilities on public showings and the best of them may be Equltant aud Leisure. FIRST HACK HURDLES, of 150 sovs. One mile and a-half.

Skyrider. Red Lane, Aurora Borealis and Vinella are the best performed hurdlers. Aurora Borealis and Vinella may do best. JUVENILE HANDICAP, of 150 sovs. Five furlongs.

Good beginners like Accra. Blue Paper and Rule Britannia will be in demand in the Juvenile Handicap. MARTON CUP, of 600 sovs. One mile and a-quarter.

There is quite a good field in the Marton Cup, and form at Mauawatu looks like being repeated. Cashier looks like again finishing in front of those he met in the Cup last week, with Star Area likely to be more dangerous on a dry track. Hoylake, First Acre, Arrow Lad, Otairi, Singleton and Full Mark must all be considered and Singleton was unlucky at 'Awapuni. Atliolspear will probably be nt The first-named pair, however, should bold their own. DASH HACK HANDICAP, of 150 sovs. Six furlongs aud 27 yards.

Glenartney and Statuary showed the best form of the hack sprinters at Awapuni, and they should go well. Limosin is a fresh horse likely to show up. RAILWAY HANDICAP, of 275 sovs. Six furlongs and 27 yards.

The Raider appears to possess gool prospects in the sprint event, and he may find Freehold a dangerous opponent. NEW YEAR HACK HANDICAP, of 160 sovs. One mile and 137 yards.

Thrift raced well at Woodville, while Democratic. Fine Acre. Goldllkc. Oscar, Rich Harvest and Patcaroa have all done well lately. Goldlikc and Thrift may do best. STEWARDS’ HANDICAP, of 200 sovs. Seven furlongs.

On recent form Gold Cure and Keddar should run good races in the concluding event and High Falutin’ may be the best of the others.

W air arap a Prospects. The Wairarapa Racing Club's meeting at Tauherenikau is always a very popular fixture, drawing strongly on Wellington for patronage, while its Easter and New Year dates enable it to attract large crowds and give stakes much above those given by the average club. For instance, the Cup to-morrow is worth 700 sovs. (which includes a 100-guinea gold cup), while only one event, that for maidens, has a stake of less than 200 sovs. The first race is timed tw start at 12 noon, and excursion fares by special trains to Featherston are available. In addition the roads for motoring are in good order. Given fine weather the track will be in first-class condition. The programme is as follows ELECTRIC HANDICAP, of 250 sovs.

Veronese .. 7 11 Kaihoro. Banket. Silver Coot, and Veronese have the likeliest chances over five furlongs. If Silver Coot .repeats Awapuni form he will be bard to beat. FEATHERSTON HACK HANDICAP, of

High Society having struck form must be considered despite his weight. If Oscar runs he Should be dangerous, while Royal Opera, Grecian, and Mothplane cannot be overlooked. High Society and Royal Opera may do best. NURSERY HANDICAP, of 250 sovs.

Lady Pam should be a pronounced favourite iu the twt>-year-old race as she decisively accounted for Princess Betty, who at her next start bent Paganelli. If Arajean runs she should go well, and Benign may also show up. WAIRARAPA CUP. of 700 sovs. One mile and a quarter and 60 yards.

On Awapuni form Atliolspear and Stanchion are the most likely of the Cup horses, though Tert may improve. The dangerous one to the first two named may be Joy Bird. CHAMPION HACK HANDICAP, of 300 sovs. Ono mile.

Fernden is Improving, and he should account for Clarendon, Imateagirl, Chopin. Shortly and Oscar have prospects, but Fernden stands ou». ■WARDELL HANDICAP, of 300 sovs.

Miss Ransom 7 13 According to reports Maui has gone sore. Rory Mor on Awapuni form has good prospects, and if reserved Joy Bird should be prominent. Cerf looks the most likely of the light-weights. WHAREKAKA HACK HANDICAP, of 200

Dermod .... 712 Rational II . 7 .> Noteworthy, Mangaharei, Ben Hur and Rational II look the best prospects in the hack snrint though the latter may be reserved for the concluding event. Ben Hur and Mangaharei ran creditable races on the last day at Awapuni. NOVICE STAKES, of 150 sovs. Seven

amongst the maidens, who are a poor lot. in his absence Tunbridge looks the most likely on Mauawatu form. MAR T ON RE HAN DI CAP S. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North. December 30. The following rehandicaps have been declared for the Marton meeting:— Hurdles.—Aurora Borealis, 10.6. Juvenile Handicap.—Statuary. 8.5. Dash Handicap.—Statuary, 8.2. Railway Handicap.—Keddar, 8.0. Stewards’ Handicap.—Keddar, 9.7. Scratched for al! engagements: Paganelli. Rory Mor, Tripping. Oral, Glena Bay, and Macroom.

| The Stratford Meeting. ! Good acceptances have been received for tlie Stratford meeting. Excursion fares will be available by special trains from New Plymouth, Waitara, Tnhora, Opunake aud Wanganui. The first race is timed to start at 11.45 a.m. Taranaki form should be a useful guide and the programme is as follows:-— TRIAL STAKES, of 125 sovs. Six furlongs.

3 The following horses may run prominently in their engagements:— Trial Stakes.—Fortalice and Rossferry. Tariki Handicap—Marjoram and Singer. Stratford Cup—Bright Glow and The Swell. Ohura Hurdles.—Omeo and Whenuanui. Juvenile Handicap.—Valpre and Orapai. Douglas Handicap—Ridgemount and Gold Dawn. Midhirst Handicap—Kawhakina and . Manly. Railway Handicap—Callapat and Peg Black. The Hawke’s Bay Meeting The Hawke’s Bay meeting at Hastings has attracted good fields although they are mostly local horses. The programme is as follows:— OTA TARA JUMPERS’ FLAT HANDICAP, of 100 sovs. One mile and a quarter.

MAHORO MAIDEN, of 100 sovs. Five and a half furlongs. (All 8.0). Grown Link Knight of Gold Morrv Melody Kaokaoroa Ata Ilaere Wedding Bells Miss Qnex Cook Tino Tama Portray Crown Emblem Blackpool Flakewhite Trisogne Pari Golden Area The Perch San Quex HASTINGS HANDICAP, of 110 sort).

Juvenile Handicap—Manuln nnd Rapallo. President’s Handicap—Merry Damon and Balloon. .... Waipatu Handicap—Malahat and Plane. Havelock Handicap—Cuticle and My Own. , Stewards’ Handicap—Aston and Moa Bird.

WANGANUI NOTES FERNDEN TO RACE AT WAIRARAPA Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, December 30. Fernden is to fulfil his engagements at the Wairarapa meeting. The Australianbred gelding has been risen 91b. in both of his first day’s engagements, but this will not prevent him being made a good favourite iu whichever he starts. Present intentions are to run him in the Champion Hack Handicap, and after his fine showing oh Saturday he can be depended upon to run a very fast mile. Mangaharei, who is also owned by Mr. W. Jury, will accompany Fernden to the Wairarapa fixture, and will take on the six furlong hack race. Hopes are entertained that Laughing Prince will stand another preparation, and it is intended to put him into work again after the holidays. On his form in the early spring Laughing Prince will only need to keep sound to win some good races before the sex -on ends. Cadland. who broke >i blood vessel ou the eve of the Mauawatu meeting, subsequently got into a fence, and though his leg was not badly cut, it became much swollen. It was hoped the Acre gelding could be got ready for the Wellington meeting, but this makes his case more doubtful. It was most unfortunate that F. Tilley should have lost the services of’such a promising sort for the holiday meetings, as the Acre gelding must have won some money at Awapuni and Marton. Star Area ran his best race this season in the president’s Handicap at Awapuni. and ou that showing might pick up a stake at Marton, where he is engaged in the Cup. He should be all the better for his racing last week. Just an Idea had to forfeit his Awapuni engagements owing to the effects of a kick on the leg sustained at Hawera. He appears to be all right again, and is to race at Marton. Marjoram returned to Bulls on Saturday from Taranaki, as consequent on receiving a kick on the second day at New Ply-, mouth he will be unable to race at Stratford. His trainer. Veale. is unfortunate, as he had his charge in splendid fettle, and anticipated another win. Mr. V. Edhousc, owner of Elysianor. has gone to Auckland to sec his horse run on New Year's Day. ' GREYMOUTH HANDICAPS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Greymouth, December 30.
