Mr. E. Bary, headmaster of the Central School, Palmerston North, has left on a motoring tour to Tongaporutu, on the North Taranaki coast.
It is hoped that Mr. W. T. Penny, secretary of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, who is, progressing satisfactorily after his recent operation, will be able to leave the private hospital on Monday. Mr. W. A. Bryden, a student teacher on the staff of the Palmerstou North Technical School, is entering the Training College next year. Miss Catherine Mac Gibbon, who was selected by the appointments committee from applicants, lias accepted the position of-cookery and home science teacher. Reporting to the Technical School Committee on Thursday evening, the director (Mr. G. G. Hancox) stated that Mr. Bryden had rendered excellent service both in the class-room and general sports, activities. Evangelist T. Bamford has arrived at Palmerston North (from the Glen Iris College of the Bible) to commence his ministry with the Church of Christ tomorrow. A welcome, social was tendered Mr. Bamford at the/ Campbell Street Chapel last evening, the induction ceremony being performed by Evangelist W. Carpenter, of Vivian Street, Wellington. That the services of Dr. Uttley have been appreciated in other colleges was exemplified yesterday at the weekly luncheon of the Masterton Rotary Club, when Rotarian H. B. Reid, an old boy of Waitaki, read a telegram of 'congratulation and good wishes from the president and old boys of Waitaki on Dr. Uttley’s new appointment. The death occured at the Palmerston North Hospital on December 12, after a prolonged illness, of Frederick Henry Cress, a returned soldier and well-known jockey. Deceased, whose parents reside in Kaikoura. was a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Moore, of Masterton. Mr. R. Mahony, who has occupied the position of stationmaster at Masterton for the past three years, has been notified of his transfer to Te Kuiti. Ho will leave to take up his new position during next month. A WIFE’S STRATEGY. At the children’s request, mother stepped toward the grate and requested a beautiful fur coat from Blandford’s Ltd., expert furriers, Rangitikei Street.
