DONOVAN DEFEATS CROWLE TOUGH OPPONENT FOR NEW ZEALANDER CONTEST FULL OF INCIDENT By Telegraph.—Press Association. New Plymouth, December 19. Tommy Donovan (8.13 J beat Tommy Crowle (9.3), featherweight champion of Australia, to-night. The contest was over 15 rounds. Crowle proved the toughest opponent Donovan has yet met, and held the-Wai-tara boxer on points until half-way was reached. Donovan came with a rush over the latter stages, however, and earned a points decision. , ■ Crowle outshone his opponent in elose work, swinging a bard right effectively to Donovan’s body. He did not, however, have a counter for Donovan's straight left, and several times was hard pressed. Several willing exchanges had the crowd in a frenzy, and they were amazed when on occasions the fury of the Australian’s onslaught caused Donovan to retreat. CHOCOLATE WINS AGAIN FAST FIGHT WITH PETRONE (Rec. December 19, 9.20 p.m.) New York, December 18. Kid Chocolate (126 Jib. won a tenrounds’ decision from Dominick Petrone (129j1b.), in a Christmas charity bout. The fight was fast and exciting throughout, but Chocolate, with his customary ease, took all but the first round. HARVEY AND HOOD FIGHT A DRAW (Rec. December 19, 10.55 p.m.) London, December 19. A fifteen rounds contest between Len Harvey and Jack Hood, for the British middle-weight championship and the Lonsdale Belt, went the full distance. ■The decision was a draw.
