ELECTRIC POWER

PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN With the idea of stimulating the use of electricity, a Dominion-wide publicity scheme is to be launched at an early date. This step is the outcome ot a recent conference of representatives of power boards, at which the question of organising some definite plan of campaign was thoroughly discussed. An advertising committee, comprising representatives of the Government, the supply authorities and the electrical trade was appointed, and it deckled, after careful investigation, upon the following plan of campaign :— (1) That a combined co-operative advertising scheme involving a minimum expenditure of £20,000 be launched early in 1930. (2) That the campaign be spread over a period of three years. (3) That the cost of the campaign be distributed as follows: New Zealand Government (two-fifths), £8000; supply authorities (two-fifths), £8000; electrical trades (one-fifth), £4000; total, £20,000. (4) That the campaign provide for (a) a large volume of advertising in newspapers circulating in the territories covered by the various supply authorities; (b) attractive and powerful posters in some of the leading hoarding sites in New Zealand; (c) folders and other mailing pieces distributed through the local bodies; and (d) other general propaganda. Under the basis of contribution adopted the Hutt Electric Power. Board would subscribe the sum of £227/1/for the three years campaign, cr £75/13/8 per year, the amount to he payable in quarterly instalments, commencing as from January, 1930. At yesterday’s meeting of the board, the matter was referred to the engineer and general manager (Mr. E. F. Hollands) for a report.
