SWIMMING

On Saturday, at Te Aro Baths, the Wellington public will have an opportunity of seeing the visiting Australian swimmers. Noel Ryan and Owen Griffiths, in action. Special invitation races, in which these swimmers will participate, have been arranged. Particular interest centres round the 100 yards scratch event, in which Griffiths will be opposed by W. Cameron, the present New Zealand champion. Both these swimmers have recorded 55 4-ssec. for the distance, and this time, which is the present New Zealand record, is expected to be bettered. Ryan will appear in a 440 yards invitation handicap, in which he will be conceding starts to O. E. Claridge and Miss Kathleen Millar., the present 440 yards New Zealand ladies’ champion. Polo, diving, and handicap events complete the programme.
