'BOOKMAKER’S OFFICE , RAIDED Dominion Special Service'. Auckland, November 25. Another gaming' raid was brought off this morning by Detective-Sergeant McHugh and Detective J. Nalder, who went to an office in Gladtsone Buildings at 10.30 and arrested John William Hopkins, aged 36, a clerk, and Herbert Edward Langridge, aged 40, a salesman. At the Magistrate’s Court, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., Hopkins was charged with using the premises of No. 10 Gladstone Buildings as a common gaming house. Detective-Sergeant McHugh, who prosecuted, said Hopkins was employed by a principal, who was absent at the time. Hopkins had not previously been before the Court, but the principal had. The business was an extensive one. Mr. Hunt said that as the principal had been charged before he would treat it the same as if he were again before the Court. Hopkins was lined £lOO.
Langridge pleaded guilty to a charge of being found without' lawful excuse on the premises and was lined £2.
