Gunning, accompanied by their son, Mr. E. Gunning, left on Monday on an extended visit to Rotorua.
Mrs. W. Smith, of Huntervillc, spent, the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. King, sen. Shannon was badly defeated on the local courts by a team from the Levin Tennis Club on Saturday, the scores being: Levin, 25; Shannon, 7. A strong southerly wind, which swept across the courts all day, made play far from pleasant. There was again a large attendance at the usual monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute, held on Wednesday afternoon, when Mrs. Waring Taylor was in the chair. It was decided to approach the Borough Council for permission to plant marigolds in the Plimmer Terrace ornamental plot. A “treasure hunt” organised by Mrs. McKenzie caused much amusement/Mrs. McLean discovering the hidden treasure.' Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Tregill, Terry, and Wiggins. Demonstrations in the making of paper roses and paner beads were given by Mrs. J. T. Bovis.
