Miss Phillipa Childs, of Lansdowne, Masterton, has been staying for a few days with' Mrs. James Andrew, "lea,” Masterton. Mrs. Ronald Bamford, of Pahiatua. is the guest of her mother. Mrs. .1. 11. Tatham, of “Homewood,” Masterton. Miss Norah Bunny, of Masterton,'is visiting Wellington this week-end, and will be the guest of her sister, Mrs. Eldon Moore, at Eastbourne. Mrs. Gill, of Masterton, has been staying in Wellington this week. Mrs. Guy Tapley and her small son, of Wellington, accompanied by Mrs. Evatt, left last night for Dunedin. Mr. and Mrs. V. Wybournc, of Te Aroha, are on a motoring tour, and are the guests of Mrs. G. H. Swan while in Wanganui. Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Peek and Miss Peek have returned to Wanganui from a tour of Australia. Mrs. H. Charles, of Christchurch, is the guest of Mrs. A. E. Savage, of "Wanganui. Mrs. Hugh Stewart, of Marton, is visiting her daughter, Mrs. 11. J. Wiley, of Epsom, Auckland. Miss Guy’s poster exhibition is now showing at the Sargeant Art Gallery, Wanganui, and is attracting, much interest. ■ ■ Mrs. G. S. Grant, of Timaru, is a visitor to Wanganui. Mrs. J. Chisholm has returned to Wanganui from New Plymouth., Mrs. Bishop, of Hatuma, has returned to Ilawera. Mrs. D. Maxwell, of Wanganui, is visiting the South Island. Mrs. 11. Tindall, of Thames, is a visitor to Wanganui. Mrs. Baillie, of Wadcstown, Wellington, is the guest of the Misses Marchant) of Wanganui. Mrs. M. Smith has returned to Wanganui from a brief visit to Wellington. Mr. and Dlrs. .T. L. Sperring have returned to Wanganui from Wellington. Dlrs. 11. D. Bates, of Wanganui, is visiting The Chateau Tongariro. Dlrs. H. Anderson, of Wanganui, has returned from a visit to Christchurch. . Dlrs, DL Barton, of Wanganui, is visiting The Chateau Tongariro. Madame C. I. Spillane, of Wanganui, held a most enjoyable studio recital during the week, when a programme was given by about .30 pupils. At the conclusion of the recital madame entertained the singers at a supper party. Dlisses Marchant, of Wanganui, have returned from a brief visit to Wellington. Dlr. and Dlrs, Kelvin Hammond. “Nga Ruru,” Tlunterville, are visiting Wanganui. St. Peter’s aud St. Luke’s (Wanganui) Sunday School scholars combined to give an entertainment in the Gonville Town Hall on Wednesday night. The operetta “Bluebird” was staged, and the acting, costumes and scenery were all that could be desired. The performers were Dlisses Carol Graham, Margaret Holder, Con-, stance Beaven, Masters B. Moore, L. Graham and N. Morris, assisted by a chorus of boys and girls. Several introduced numbers were given by Dlrs. A. B. Jamieson, Dlisses A. Brindle. DI. Reid, and Dlr. A. Brindle. The Rev. Malcolm thanked the performers and Dlr. and Mrs. Jamieson, Dlr. and" Dlrs. Brindle, Dlr. and Dlrs. Howe and Dlr. R. Howell for the production of such a successful evening. The funds are in aid of St. Peter’s Sunday School, Gonville. At its meeting on Thursday night, the High Schools Board of Governors (Palmerston North) accepted with regret the resignation of Dliss P. Partridge as parttime shorthand teacher at the Technical School, and also that of Miss DI. Jordan as cooking mistress. The latter is leaving the teaching profession. It was decided to place on record the board’s appreciation of Dliss Jordan’s services. After a lengthy illness that was borne with great fortitude, the death has occurred of Dliss Linda Ananda Johnson, of Foxton, only sister of Dlrs. Grahame Heard, of Pirie Street, Palmerston North. The late Dliss Johnson was born in Foxton in. 1872. and had been an invalid the whole of her life.. She was a sister of the late Dlr. A. Johnson, and half-sister of Dlr. G. Johnson, of Rata. The late Dliss Johnson possessed a most happy disposition. despite her severe handicap, and was a highly-respected resident of Foxton. where she had resided for 57 years. Dliss Patricia May- Keeling, youngest daughter of Dlr. and Dlrs. G. W. Keeling, of College Street, Palmerston North, passed away at the Fever Hospital at Wellington on Thursday, after a comparatively short illness. About three weeks ago Dliss Keeling contracted typhoid fever. Of an exceedingly bright and eheerful disposition, the late Dliss Keeling, who was only 20 years of age, had a great many friends. Some six months ago she took up nursing in a private hospital at Wellington, and she was a most popular and capable member of the staff. Deceased received her early education at Craven School. Palmerston .North, and later attended Ngatawa Diocesan .School at Marton for five years. She was a member of the Dlanawatu Ladies’ Golf Club and the Palmerston North Lawn Tennis Club. Her demise has caused a painful shock to all who knew her, and there have been many expressions of condolence with the bereaved family.
