SOCIETY FORMED. The formation of a fellowship of New Zealand writers was decided upon at a we’l-attended meeting, held in the Dominion Museum on Thursday night. “ It was decided to ask Dr. Rutherford Waddell, of Dunedin, to accept the position of president, and Bishop Cleary, of Auckland, and Mr. Johannes Andersen, of Wellington, were nominated as vicepresidents. ... The chairman. Mr. O. N. Gillespie, said that owing to the generous assistance of Fino Arts (New Zealand). Ltd., a company which had recently been formed to promote book publishing in New Zealand, the fellowship would be of practical benefit to members and New Zealand literature generally. Amongst the .most interesting of the fellowship’s proposed activU/'s were included the publishing of good New Zealand books, the foundation of a literary quarterly magazine, and a scheme to keep the fellowship and the work of its members before the public. Tt was reported that the strong Australian fellowship desired n(filiation. and this was agreed to. Mr. W. E. Leicester was instructed to prepare the draft constitution, ami the first general meeting was fixed for December 12. 'flic secretary reported that approximately 40 of the leading writers in New Zealand had applied for membership.
