Vice-Regal. Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Alice Fergusson, who have been spending Carnival Week in Christchurch, arrived in the ferry steamer from Lyttelton on Saturday morning, and left immediately for Napier, where they will spend two or three days. His Excellency will perform the official opening ceremony of the Waikaremoana hydro-electric works on Wednesday, and,. accompanied by Her Excellency, will then visit Gisborne, Rotorua, and Auckland, where he will perform the opening of the Auckland War Memorial Museum, returning to Wellington on December 4.

The Minister of Lands and Agriculture (Hon. G. W. Forbes) returned on Saturday from Christchurch. The Minister of Health (Hon. A. J. Stallworthy) went north by the Saturday afternoon express. The Select Committee of the House of Representatives which is investigating educational questions left last night for Auckland, where a start will be made.

Mr. A. W. Hawley, of Kemsley and Co. Pty., Ltd., left for Auckland last night by the Limited express. Mr. F. W. Furkert, Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, returned from Auckland by the Limited on Saturday. Advice has been received that E. E. Bailey, New Zealand Rhodes Scholar for 1929, has been admitted to the status of Advanced Student for the Doctor of Philosophy course at Oxford University.

Mr. A. Campbell, accountant for the Nelson branch of the Union Bank of Australia, has been appointed manager of the Pahiatua branch. Mr. L. F. D. Hardie, of the Pahiatua branch, will go to Nelson as accountant. Mr. J. M. McLean, Chief Postmaster at Wanganui, has been appointed Postmaster at Wellington. Mr. A. Dawson, Chief Postmaster at Palmerston North, has been appointed Chief Postmaster at Wanganui. Senior-Sergeant M. Gaffney, of the Central Police Station, has returned to Wellington after a visit to Christchurch.
