. The Prime Minister (Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Ward) was not in the House, of Representatives yesterday, although he spent a busy morning with deputations. The Minister of Lands (Hon. G. W. Forbes) acted as Leader of the House in the absence of the Prime Minister. On inquiry last evening at. Sir Joseph Ward’s private suite in Parliament Buildings, it was stated that he was resting.

Sir Henry .Buckleton, general manager of the Bank of New Zealand, and Mr. W. Watson, a member of the directorate, left for Auckland by the Limited express last night..

Brigadier M. M. Gard’ner, D. 5.0., Officer Commanding the Southern Command, has returned to Christchurch from Wellington. Colonel H. R. Potter has made a satisfactory recovery from the serious illness which he .contacted while attending a defence conference-at Rotorua early in the year. As officer commanding -the- Northern Command, he is able .to resume light duty.

Captain T. H. E. Oakes, accompanied by his wife and daughter, arrived at Auckland by the Ulimaroa. They propose to settle in New Ze; land. Mr. Cecil Trevithick, of Auckland, who has spent several months in the United States studying architecture, will return to Auckland by the Niagara on Monday. Mr. H. A. Penn,. district, railway traffic manager, Christchurch, has been visiting Wellington.

Mr. R. Ellison, manager of the New Zealand Produce Association, London, is visiting Wellington. He is at the Midland Hotel. ’

Mr. J. M. Ross, of Melbourne, secretary of the Kauri Timber Company, arrived in Auckland by the Ulimaroa. He intends making a tour of the New Zealand branches of the firm.

Mr' G. G. Stewart, officer in charge of the’ Publicity Branch of the New Zealand Railways, returned from a visit to the South. Island yesterday morning.

The funeral of the late Mr. Marcus G. Raymond took place at Wellington yesterday. The pallbearers were Mr. Frank Raymond, Dr. Arthur Plimmer. Dr. Alex. Robertson, Dr. P. J. McEvedy, Mr. G. F. Wilson, Mr. A. Hollis, and Mr. T. Brodie. - Mr. Raymond, who passed away suddenly at the residence of his friends. Dr. and Mrs. A. Robertson, was the youngest surviving son of the late Captain and Mrs. J W. Raymond, of Avondale. Southland, his father being one of the- earliest pioneers and ninholders of the South; During the Ghent War as a lieutenant of the Royal Naval Reserve be sqyved his country, doing patrol work iu the North Sea, where the hardships endured laid the foundation of his indifferent health of recent years. When his health permitted he was an active member of tbe Heretaunga Golf Club. He is survived by four sisters and many relatives. At the funeral the chief mourners were Mr. Frank Raymond (nephew) and Mrs. Arthur Palmer (niece).
