The Wellington branch of the Association of Men of Kent and Kentish Men held a successful social evening on Wednesday. The president (Dr. C. J. Reakes) was in the chair, supported by Sir William Hall-Jones (past president), and there was an attendance of fifty or sixty. In his opening remarks Dr. Reakes mentioned that the council had decided to hold quarterly socials instead of the dances as in the past, it being felt that members got. to know one another better at such a function. The musical programme arranged by Messrs. Dean and Meacock was very much appreciated, the items being songs by Mrs. Leach mid Mrs. Newsham and Messrs. Parrott, Bolton, W, W. Marshall, A. L. Edwards, Laurie, Dollie and Meacock, a violin solo by Mr. J. Greener, and musical items by Mr. F. L. Dean’s orchestra. Sir William Hall-Jones gave a short address. It was unanimously decided to hold a further social about March, when the two Kentish cricketers, Messrs. Legge and Woolley, who are coming to New Zealand, will be welcomed. Supper was served, and the evening closed with “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem.
