THE TALKIES

Sir, —Your correspondent, T. F. Westfield, says: “Ninety per cent, of New Zealand/s youth like the talkies”, (that is quite possible), “the American slang and humour and, what is more, imitate the latter two (?), proof-positive of their approval!” I was speaking of an audience present at “The Broadway Melody,” and it is possible that “seventy-five per cent, of that audience” did not constitute the youth of New Zealand. It included a section of the people—-young, middle-aged, and elderly. However, concerning T. F. Westfield’s last three remarks, why not let the youth of New Zealand speak for themselves and give their candid opinion? —I am, etc., “TALKIE FAN.” Wellington, September 30.
