PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION MEETS.

The annual ineeting of the Waiwetu Progressive Association was held recently. Mr. A. J. Nicholls occupied the chair. A. J. Nicholls and ,T. H. Lee; secretary-treas-urer Mr. F. M. Thessman; committee, Messrs. Inder, Robinson, Whiteman, .Menage Wilson, Van Overloop, and beeiiey. Mr. 11. N. Wilson, headmaster of tne Waiwetu School and chairman of its Parents’ Association, addressed the meeting and made a strong appeal for co-operation between the Progressive Association and the Parents’ Association, for their mutual benefit. He considered that it was to the advantage of all that the school should have beautiful grounds and that the association should include in its activities efforts towards improving the school grounds and surroundings. A popular innovation at the meeting was a flower show and competition. The results were as follow Trumpet daffodil: Mrs. J. Warne?, 1; Mrs. Van Overloop, 2. Non-trunipet:- Mrs. Thessman, 1; Mrs. Thessman, 2. Bloom of any other bulb or corm: Mr. W. W. Gardiner, 1 and 2, with a line display of anemones, bloom from any other plant: Mrs. Joyce, 1, with interest was shown by all present and it was decided to hold a rose competition in November with a larger number of classes. Mr. E. Anstis kindly judged the exhibits. At the conclusion of the meeting the flowers were auctioned, realising lls.-Sd., which was handed over to the school funds. .. Musical items were rendered by Miss M. Jones and Messrs. Douthett and Gardner, the accompanist being Mrs. Nichols. A number of matters which it was considered called for atteniton were brought up and the secretary was instructed to take the necessary steps to place them before the authorities concerned. A number of new members were enrolled and from the interest shown there seems every indication of a successful year ahead of the association.
