UPPER HUTT BOROUGH
MEETING OF COUNCIL. The Upper Hutt Borough Council met last night. Councillor W. Gyeig (deputyMayor) presided, the following also being present: Councillors E. W. Cottle, C. L. A. Spearman, A. Howell, J. Blewman, M. Hood, G. W. Guthrie, and J. C. Duff. The Auditor-General wrote forwarding the borough balance-sheets for 1927-28 and 1928-29. The Deputy-Mayor stated' that there were no tags on either balancesheet, and it was decided to hold a special meeting in conjunction with the next fortnightly meeting of the council to consider the balance-sheets.
A letter was received from Messrs. Mazengarb, Hay and Macalister, the borough solicitors, enclosing the sanction of the Local Government Loans Board to the water head-works, fire brigade, and water reticulation loans.
The Lower Hutt Borough Council wrote stating that it had been called upon to pay the cost 'of the removal of the Hutt Valley Power Board poles to the new street alignment, and that the council had decided to obtain a decision as to whose was the liability by way of a Supreme Court judgment. It was decided to support the Lower Hutt Borough Council in the matter.
Mr. David Clyde, on behalf of the Trentham Association Football Club, wrote thanking the council for having allowed the club the use of the park for games played on September 14, and also thanking the park officials for their attention to the teams. It was decided to instal an additional suspension 250 candle-power street light in the Main Road in the vicinity of Pine Avenue corner. Messrs. H. Cook and H. Wiechern attended on behalf of the Upper Hutt Municipal Brass Band with a request that trustees be appointed for the band. It was resolved that the Mayor and councillors of the borough of Upper Hutt be the trustees of the band.
The band was granted a subsidy of £3O for the current year. It was resolved that (in accordance with the recommendation of the borough sanitary inspector) the Silverstream Hall trustees be notified that sanitary conveniences for both sexes must be provided at the hall to the satisfaction of the sanitary inspector. The borough ranger reported two cases of wandering stock since the last meeting of the council.
The application of the Trentham School Committee for an additional water service to Trentham School was granted. It was resolved that the entrance to the Blockhouse Reserve be put in order and metalled.
Councillor Hood suggested that as • new supply of footpath surfacing had been obtained by the council, that the Whiteman’s Valley footpath should now be completed, and it was decided that the work be carried out.
