Enthusiastic scenes accompanied the departure of the French cruiser Tourville for Wellington to-night. With her band playing and a searchlight piercing a pathway through heavy rain, the cruiser’s stern swung away from the Central Wharf at 6.30, but owing to the failure of a steam compressor an unforeseen delay occurred, and it was not until 40 minutes later that she glided silently into the stream. The final function of the visit was an “at home” aboard the cruiser thiis afternoon, when 500 guests attended. The visit has been a most successful one, and the behaviour of the men ashore has been magnificent.
