HIGHER IDEALS

WAY TO INTERNATIONAL PEACE. , Dominion Special Service. i ' Auckland, July 21. Speaking at the Auckland Commercial Travellers’ Club last night,, the Minister of Education (Hon. H.’ Atmore) said he considered indebtedness to America was one of the greatest stumbling-blocks to world peace. Great Britain had made a generous offer that she would cancel all European war debts owing to her if, America would cancel her own. He was sure the cancellation of in ter-Allied debts would be the first real step , toward world peace. “The League of Nations has not been an effective instrument in bringing about world peace,” said Mr. Atmore, “partly because our ideals are not high enough to enable men and women to use that magnificent institution. Unless we employ higher, ideals I am satisfied nothing can prevent the world from drifting into another catastrophe far greater than that of 1914-18.” .
