FAILURE TO MAKE LAND RETURNS

4 Palmerston North, June 10. Proceedings were taken by the Commissioner of Taxes in .the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court this . morning against F. R. Sheppard for failing to make returns of land. For the prosecution Mr. Cooke stated that no dishonesty was alleged, and there was no suggestion that efforts had been made to evade the taxes. A penalty ot £5 was imposed by the Magistrate, Mr. J, L. Stout, S.M. B. Gower appeared on a similar charge and was fined the same amount.
