PALMERSTON NORTH NOTES

Palmerston North, June 3.

The body of the man discovered on the river bank at Tiakitahuna the Sunday before last has not yet been identified. An inquest will be held this week. Visitors to Foxton yesterday saw evidence of the recent floods in the Manawatu River in the great heaps of driftwood on the ocean beach near the bar. Residents of Palmerston North who own cottages at Foxton beach often complain that they have suffered losses from burglaries. The intruders are usually boys bent on mischief or tramps. At the week-end a Palmerston resident found that an attempt had been made by someone to enter his cottage. Entrance had been gained by smashing a window and slipping the catch. The intruder had apparently made himself at home and spent the night inside, but an inspection of the premises showed that nothing had been taken.
