LEVIN NOTES

At the executive meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union at Levin, Mrs. F. R. Wright presided. A vote of sympathy with Mrs. Procter in the death of her brother was passed. Miss Fraser and Mr 1 . W. Stewart were thanked for their donations. It was decided to lqave the furnishing affairs until the annual meeting on Tuesday afternoon. . The Student Christian Movement held its annual intercession meeting recently at Levin, when all the local members assembled. The Rev. W. Beckett presided, and several friends of the world-wide movement were present. The grand total of visits made or received by the Plunket nurse during the year inXLevin and Shannon is 4973. The chrysanthemum show at Levin on Tuesday was a great success. Die chief prizes were' won by Messrs. Bickerstaff (Napier), Ogier (Palmerston North), and Mrs. Broadbent (Levin). The decorative section was also a strong one. The class for native foliage and berries was a very fine one. The children’s section was well filled with pastel work, meccano models, decorative exhibits, qnd cookery. The show was opened by the Mayor (Mr. 1. Hobson). Special prize-winners wfire as follow:—Cut blooms, Mr. Goldsmith; decorative, Mrs. H. F. Bryant; fruit, Mr. 1. Hall; vegetables, Mrs. N. Kirkcaldje; home industries, silver cup, Mrs. R. W. B. Evans (the cup now becomes her prohealthy state of affairs was shown by the rep’ort read at the annual meeting ot the Whakatane Club, which has completed its first year with a credit balance of £4. The membership rose to 31 seniors and 20 juniors. The various lecturers during last winter were thanked. Twenty pounds had been donated to the tennis club for topdressing, etc. . Miss E. Tomlinson was elected hon. secretary, and Miss M. Kan som treasurer, the other executive officers being all re-elected.
