“Southland Times” reporters were astonished the other day when a box was opened in their room and strawberries the size of golf balls were displayed. These strawberries were grown outdoors in Invercargill. They are some of the second crop and the grower states that the first crop were much larger. “I brought them in just to show you what we can do in Southland,” was her comment. Though many of the freezing works in Canterbury are still busy, in one or two cases killings have eased off during the past week (says the “Sun”). This may be taken as an indication that the peak of the season is just about past, and probably it will not be long now before killings begin to ease off in all the works.
