Many Napier parties are now making week-end trips to the fiydro-electric works at Waikaremoana, with a view to inspecting that gigantic scheme and at the same time seeing the scenic beauties of the lake (says the Napier . Telegraph”). Not the least interesting sections of the scheme are found m the power-house, where the rushing water, carried down a drop of more than oOOitin a huge pipe, drives the turbine with u great noise, Whqt might be termed the. brains of the whole plant is found in a room on the second floor of the bunding, where there are some sensitive instruments. On a long table the various sections of the territory supplied are indicated, and it is possible to tell at a glance to what extent any of the areas are being supplied. The yellow flower of ragwort is blooming luxuriously on many of the hillsides in the Awakiqo Valley at present (reports the Taranaki “News”). In some places the weed is growing in thick patches, while in others it may be distinguished by dabs of colour through the grass.
